Opel’s New President

The new permanent head of the German branch of the company and also the European General Motors division, as expected, became a former top manager of Volkswagen. The European division of concern of General Motors – Opel has announced the appointment to the post of president of the former top manager of Volkswagen – Karl-Thomas Neumann. He will replace the interim manager of Opel Thomas Sedran.

Neumann to the middle of last year was the head of a branch of VW in China, and before that – the president of Continental. He is a professional manager, who began his career in the industry in VW, with a doctoral degree in electrical engineer. In a statement of Opel it says that Neumann will take the titel on the 1st of March. He also will become the president of GM Europe and will go to the board of GM. Until his retirement from the post of head of the Chinese department VW Neumann was looking at the possible successor of Volkswagen – the Martin Winterkorn.

“He has a real-world experience to increase profitability and restructuring,” – said vice-president of General Motors, Steven Girski, giving his position of a president of GM Europe to Neumann. This week the union IG Metall demanded from GM, to close the Opel plant in Bochum for the job security for the workers of this company until 2018, so Neumann will face some difficult times.
