Opel CEO Karl-Thomas Neumann announced that the company plans to enter the Chinese market – car sales do not justify the cost of brand presence.

Just last year, Opel sold 4,365 vehicles, while spending hundreds of millions of euro for advertising campaigns. According to Neumann, the decision to withdraw from the Chinese market is long overdue. However, some Opel models may appear on the market under the brand China Buick.

Last week, Neumann said that Opel will not begin to develop a new compact hatchback in conjunction with the French group Peugeot-Citroen. “We had an agreement to develop next-generation compact car. However, this was a mistake, because in this case, our model would remain without platforms General Motors. My opinion is that it is necessary to use the chassis for GM small car as we can in this case be used to model its own engines and technology,”- said in an interview with Neumann Autocar.
