Opel declines production of Ampera

German automaker Opel, which is part of the group General Motors, ceases to manufacture electric model Ampera. Executives came to this decision due to low sales of this model and poor demand.

The fact that last year the level of implementation of electric cars, the company fell as much as 40%. But the decline in demand has not stopped, and for the first six months 2014 Opel was able to sell only 332 cars Ampera, which showed a drop in sales by 67%.

The first words of the completion of manufacture electric cars were made last spring. Steve Hirskyy, vice president of General Motors, said that is not satisfied with Ampera popular in the European market. “Many governments in Europe say they want electric cars. We represent them, but there is no demand”, – told reporters vice president at the Geneva Auto Show. Replace Ampera issue in the new generation of companies are going to Chevrolet Volt, which is already in full working designers. Official presentation of the car will close by the end of 2015.
