Opel has ceased its new projects that aimed for developing an electric version of the compact-car Adam. This information has spread over the media citing the chief engineer Dieter Metz of the new models. The reason for this decision was a very high price of the potential compact car that by the initial idea was supposed to be one of the most affordable models of the manufacturer.

At the moment, “Opel” have a working copy of the electric vehicle Adam, equipped with 114-horsepower electric motor. The same unit will be installed into a compact hatchback Chevrolet Spark EV, whose sales in the U.S. and in certain other countries (which is yet to be announced) will begin next year.

“It was solely a business decision, – explained the management of the electric Adam project. – We will not be able to set on this car the price that would be attractive to buyers. ” Head of Department of Sales and Marketing of Opel Alfred Rick added that sales of this electric car are extremely low just because of their high cost. “If you look at the technologies that are present in the market today, you will realize that they are too expensive!” – said Rick.
