Closing of Opel Plant in Bochum

Opel, a great and one of the most popular German automakers in the world, wants to close its plant in Bochum that specializes on releasing and producing high-quality special transmission systems especially fitted for Opel models. It became known that the closing of the factory will happen quite soon, and more particularly already in the year 2013, however as majority has projected and analyzed – closer to the end of the year.

The result will have quite a negative impact. As the factory closes, the number of people employed in this German city will be reduced by about 300 jobs. This is the official number that was provided by the representative of the IG Metall Nordrhein-Westfalen organization. The heads of this great and popular automaker still want to discuss this matter with the Council of Representatives of employees in order to address the alignment of interests and a new social plan of the company. “We are in the process of negotiations and we need to find a good and suitable solution for each local branch,” – stressed in turn, representatives of the trade union.

Now Opel company is experiencing some difficulties due to lower prices and reduced production capacity of the company production facilities. The fate of the branch in Bochum after 2016 is still unknown. Though we hope for the best, as who knows from where will Opel get its new transmission system then.
